A young girl, traumatised by fire, holds the key to a series of strange deaths. An investigation by a detective (Lee) and a pathologist (Cushing) leads to a mysterious charitable trust on the remote Scottish island of Bala. Ahead of its time on release in 1973, Peter Sasdy’s intricate thriller combines a murder story with madness, obsessive mother love and a lust for immortality. The first (and only) film produced via Christopher Lee’s Charlemagne Productions and based on the novel by John Blackburn, Nothing but the Night receives a rare screening at FANTASTIQ III – and on glorious 35mm.
